What Time of Day is Best for Training When Weight Loss is the Goal?
At BPLA we get a lot of questions from clients about how many classes to attend and well as what time is best to attend class. With so many members having varying schedules they feel like they don’t have full control over their training times.
This year long study that examined the impact of the time of day of exercise on body weight, fat mass, fat-free mass, and body fat percentage. 88 participants were assigned to the evening training group (between 4 pm and 7 pm), the morning training group (6 am to 9 am), or the control group.
The study found no significant differences in weight loss between the AM and PM exercise groups. Both groups saw improvements in weight loss, increased cardiorespiratory fitness, and increased physical activity. This study demonstrates the positive effects of exercise on weight loss. Individuals pursuing weight loss should focus on consistent physical activity rather than worrying about what time of day they are training.
